Moms and dads start the parenting journey with a diaper bag full with everything their baby needs. Typically, the load gets lighter as the kids get older. But, for parents of kids with special needs the opposite is often true. Our handbags get bigger and heavier as we try to anticipate everything our children may need when we leave the house even for a short journey.
Here are some of the typical things you will find in a special needs Mom’s Handbag:
- Wet Wipes
- Extra set of children’s clothes
- Ear Plugs and/or headphones
- Appointment Diary
- Toys/Gaming Devices
- Tablets – usually Apple devices
- Hand sanitizer
- First aid kits
- Pen and paper
What is in the bag depends on your children’s needs. Some parents have to bring communication devices or diapers and wipes for kids who aren’t toilet trained. You never know what you will find in a special needs mom’s handbag.
