Children with insufficient sleep have problems concentrating, focusing, paying attention and with their memory. In addition, not enough sleep increases behavior problems in children. The symptoms of chronic sleep deprivation can even mimic ADHD. The study compared the academic performance of these night owls with their earlier to bed peers. The teens who stayed up late during the academic year had lower overall grades than their peers. Sleep education was provided to parents of 80 children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) by researchers from Vanderbilt University and their colleagues who conducted this study.
