Now that our kids are back to school, it is time for us parents to plan some relaxation time. With Netflix, I put my worries aside by watching a great movie. Not sure what to watch? Check out my Netflix recommendations.
Movies on Netflix
These are three of my favorite films now streaming on Netflix.
Based on the book by Kathryn Stockett, the movie explores the lives of African American maids working in white households in the 1960s. The maids take care of white families’ children and households in the southern state of Mississippi. After returning from college, the daughter in one of these families wants to become a writer. She decides to write a book exposing the working conditions of the maids. To do this, she needs the cooperation of the maids and their trust. The movie stars Emma Stone and Octavia Davis.
A modern classic! A young banker, Andy played by Tim Robbins is convicted of murdering his wife and her lover. Despite proclaiming his innocence he is sent to Shawshank prison for life. While inside he becomes friends with a fellow inmate played by Morgan Freeman. Freeman’s character Red is also serving a life sentence. Because of his financial skills, Andy is befriended by the warden to help prison guards with financial issues. Andy’s work expands, and he ends up handling the warden’s money laundering operation. The movie follows the friendship of Red and Andy over the years and Andy’s attempt at freedom.
Eat Pray Love
Julia Roberts stars as an American woman who finds herself questioning the life she is living including her marriage. The movie is based on the best selling memoir by Elizabeth Gilbert. Roberts character, Liz, goes on a journey of self-discovery following her divorce. Her travels bring her to Italy, India and Bali.
