Much of our Irish summer was a washout making it difficult to keep the family entertained. If the weather has you stuck inside, or your family needs a break from the sun, check out these great programs on Netflix.
Netflix for Children
Showing girl power for STEM (science, technology engineering and Math); Project Mc2 is a Netflix original series premiering 7 august. Project Mc2 tells the story of 4 brilliant students who join a spy organization. The show illustrates that being smart and cool are not mutually exclusive. The series is designed for the tween audience.
For the younger kids, Netflix and DreamWorks Animation bring a series about the adventures of Ty Trux, a massive Tyrannosaurus Trux, and his tiny friend Revvit, a razor-smart Reptool. The series is based on the award-winning books by Chris Gall.
“This is a property that creates a new world with stunning visuals and fantastic action combined with great characters and comedy. In Dinotrux, the biggest guy and the smallest creäture become best friends and through their unique partnership evolve their primitive world – a theme that we think will resonate with kids,” said Margie Cohn, Head of Television at DreamWorks Animation.
Dinotrux is available on Netflix from 17 August.
Ever After High: Way Too Wonderland
This animated series follows the children of famous fairy tale characters. Raven Queen, daughter of the Evil Queen, tries to reverse her mother’s curse on Wonderland. She ends up transporting herself and her friends to Wonderland High. As the girls fall down the rabbit hole, their outfits transform into spellbinding dresses. Every After High: Way Too Wonderland is available from 14 August.
Netflix for the Romantic
The Best of Me
The movie adaptation of Nicholas Sparks best-selling book tells the story of high school sweet hearts Dawson and Amanda. Twenty years later the pair are reunited when they return home for a friend’s funeral. Will their reunion ignite old feelings? The movie stars James Marsden as Dawson and Michelle Monaghan as Amanda. The film is rated 12A by the Irish film Classification Office and is available on 9 august.
This film is based on the novel Where Rainbows End by best-selling author Cecelia Ahern. The main characters Rosie and Alex are childhood friends. Their on again off again romance stretches over many years. Each opportunity they have to be together is thwarted. Will they be reunited? The film stars Lilly Collins as Rosie and Sam Claflin as Alex. Love Rosie carries an R rating according to the IMDb (Internet Movie Database).

From Dusk till Dawn Season 2
Netflix presents the second season of this television series centered around the lives of two brothers, Seth and Richie Gecko. The brothers are on the run after robbing a bank. The FBI and Texas Rangers pursue the duo as they head to Mexico. Seth and Richie make it to Mexico by forcing a preacher with a caravan to smuggle them into the country. They end up at a strip club where they must fight vampires for their survival.
This Netflix original series expands on the storyline of the 1996 film of the same name. D. J. Cotrona plays Seth Gecko and Zane Holtz plays Richie Gecko. Season 2 begins on Netflix on 26 August.
In this series, viewers get a look at Bruce Wayne before he became Batman. The series shows the development of the relationship between Wayne and future Police Commissioner James Gordon.
As a young detective, Gordon meets Wayne when investigating the murder of his parents. Ben McKenzie stars as James Gordon and David Mzouz plays Bruce Wayne. Season 1 is now streaming on Netflix.
